Man's Journal Gets Makeover

I only had my last one for over a month, but I was getting tired of it.

This time I was going for an old-school, hard-nosed newspaper feel. It's really simple and basic and easy to read, and kind of reminds me of the New York Times/The Daily Planet. The only downside is there are no icons (yours or mine) visible anywhere. I love everyone's icons, but I'm going to try and live without them until my next layout change. :)

And there's also no tags, mood themes, locations, or music options. I sure am sacrificing a lot for this layout. :\

It seems like I keep skipping over odd-numbered episode reviews. It's totally unintentional, because I really loved Committed and Identity. Oh well. Onto the Bloodline review!

This episode was a mixed bag for me, but I mostly enjoyed it.

Clark Kent
"You are my home. Do you hear me? You're my family."

The best part of this episode for Clark was his bond with Kara. Sure, it would've helped if the writers had him (or anyone else for that matter) mention her at least once before this episode, but even without that, their relationship was the centerpiece of Bloodline. He wouldn't leave her to rot away in the Phantom Zone. She's his home. His family. She was willing to sacrifice herself just to get him home. It was lovely. It really hammered home the fact that Clark really doesn't have any family left. Ma Kent finally got a shout out (Thanks Lois!) but it's unlikely that we'll ever see her or Kara again. It was nice to give Clark one last familial bond that he could hold on to in the form of Kara, and I think she served that purpose well. But he'll be okay. He still has Shelby! And Lois and Chloe and Oliver.

Lois and Clark in the Phantom Zone was also one of my favorite parts in the episode. They really do care about each other a lot, now. All he was worried about was getting her home safely. I loved how he talked her down from her freakout with the "No one's gonna mess with Lois and Clark." line. He talks about them like they're a unit! A team! He also seemed amused while teasing Lois about being her knight in shining armor. :) It's too bad we only have one more episode of their interaction before a really, really long Clois hiatus.

Clark was totally a smooth operator in his scene with Tess. Lot's of people have work boots. If she wants to fire him, go ahead. You really think he was in the Arctic? Heh. She does seem to want into his pants, though, and that's kind of worrying. Stay out of his pants, lady! There's only room in there for Lois. And sometimes Oliver.

I love Clark & Oliver sometimes. Oliver is totally Clark's Bruce, only Oliver is less dark and cynical. Clark seemed pleased to find his ~~boyfriend~~ buddy waiting for him in the living room after a long, hard day of work. I know what that's like, Clark. ;) And I think Oliver's getting a little better about lecturing Clark, so that's always a good thing.

Lois Lane
"We can't leave yet, Kara! We have to wait for Clark!"

Lois in the Phantom Zone is something I never thought I'd see. But boy did I love seeing it. "We've been abducted!" Haha. She slays me. I also love that she and Clark used to have Guitar Hero weekends. One, because GUITAR HERO. And two, because a GH weekend consists of playing together for hours. I would totally be up for watching Clark and Lois rock out and get really competitive. :) Lois, like Clark, now talks about them as if they were a unit as well. "Us! Together! No more farm house, no more Daily Planet!" :D When she heard him getting attacked outside the portal chamber, she was going to run out there and fight God knows what with him. She wouldn't leave him behind. She wanted to stay by him and his right hook. Sigh. I really wished we could've seen them living together again for just one episode, just for the wacky hijinx. I wonder why she really decided not to move in. Could it have just been the raise? Or was it something else?

I thought ED did an amazing job as Faora, although I was not a fan of the mom-hair. :P I'm not really sure if Faora meant that Clark had feelings for Lois, or if he had feelings for mankind in general. I'm thinking she meant the former, and I love how it's so obvious to everyone around them, and yet these two are just so oblivious. I do think they've been showing *and* telling us, so I'm okay when someone from the outside comments on it. :) I really didn't understand the "hater of man" comment from Chloe in regards to Faora, though. Sure, Faora hates anything with a penis in the comics, but she gave no such indication that she did on the show. :\

I still don't understand why Tess gave Lois a raise, though. Was she impressed by her or scared of her? This totally went over my head. Someone please explain it to me! Either way, I don't think Lois was dumb for not questioning it. Clark told her she passed out the day before. Lois has no reason to believe she was walking around with no control over her body. She's been working there for a year and a half, and Tess has been printing her stories (Toxic). A raise is believable, I think, but then again I am biased. :)

Chloe Sullivan
"Do I tell you how to shoot your arrows? I don't think so."

For the first time in a really long time, I'm actually interested in Chloe's storyline. Or, at least I'm entertained by it. I liked that she did everything she could to get Clark and Lois back. She collected the crystal, she called Oliver to steal the frequency generator, and she hacked into the crystal. These are all redeeming things. :) The Chloe/Tess scene at the beginning was kind of odd, though. Maybe it was the blocking. Or the "large bird" excuse, which did make me laugh. I was seriously freaked out by the bleeding nose and white eyes. She apparently has some sort of enhanced strength, too, being able to push Oliver across the room and all. Also, I wonder if she'll ever connect Faora and Davis' picture. I mean, how else did Clark know to go to MetGen? She has to know that Faora thought Davis was her son.

Hopefully Abyss won't be dreadfully boring. Oliver really was worried about her in his scene with Clark, and the look on Clark's face is probably leading to him restoring the Fortress in the next episode. Although, Clark did insinuate that the crystal couldn't be trusted after it sent him and Lois to the PZ, so I wonder... will the Fortress be tainted when it rises again?

Oliver Queen
"Hallmark didn't have any 'Welcome Back to Earth' cards."

They used Oliver really well in this episode. He wasn't the star of the show, but he still got to be a supporting character and superhero and had a conversation with Clark. This is how he should be used in every episode. Hopefully he gets to move out of his plane soon, though. :P I was hoping that when the Ace of Clubs was destroyed in Prey, we'd see him in his apartment again, but then the club was completely repaired one week later for Lois' date with Sebastian. I just think it's really tacky that whenever someone needs to see him, he just happens to be taking off or landing. :P Speaking of landing, he was coming back from Venezuela with some interesting files. The patient's name, Dustin Farrell, is that of a guy who works in Smallville's art department. What's more important to note is the drug they're testing; AL-65. This is most definitely an improved version of the RL-65 drug that Oliver was using in Rage. The files also mention the Second Chance Halfway House, which Lana was working with, also in Rage. These files are also stamped with the LuthorCorp logo, despite the drug being created by Queen Industries. I can't help but think that all of this involves Lana and Lex and what's coming up in the (dreadful) third-quarter of the season.

It was good to see the Green Arrow, for the first time since Odyssey. They really are playing up this whole sexy-romantic-comedy thing with Tess and Oliver. I don't know if I like that. His initial glee at realizing he would be stealing from her was amusing, though. :) Also, Tess is stupid for not realizing that GA is Oliver. I thought the double-take from her in Odyssey meant that she knew. Apparently not.

LOL at the way Ollie waved to Clark. Like I said before, Ollie is Clark's Bruce, and it's nice to see. I wonder how long Oliver was sitting in the living room waiting for Clark to come home from work. That seems like a more-than-friends thing to do. ;) Clark thanked him for helping to save him, and Ollie was all, "No problem bud." I love these two together. :)

Tess Mercer
"In time, I'm sure the truth will reveal itself."

Tess keeps breaking into people's houses and places of business! Who does she think she is!? :P Tess was kind of just there. Lookin' for that darn crystal. Givin' folks raises. Implicatin' with footprints. I like how she can still be a badass in her silk robe. Although, does she always go to bed with her hair all done-up and her face plastered with make-up? You so crazy, Smallville. I do wish we'd seen something in her eyes that told us she knew that Oliver was GA. I don't think she'll have a very big story at all in the coming months (she's missing from the next 3 episodes), and when she does, it'll involve Lana. Bleh. We still have yet to see her do anything inside/with LuthorCorp, which is ridiculous considering that is the only reason she came on the show. I'm beginning to think the LC office sets have been torn down, but I don't know for what. We haven't seen them since Descent.

Davis Bloome
"My blackouts are getting worse."

I like the backstory that they've given Doomsday here. He arrived as genetic matter containing Krypton's most powerful lifeforms, apparently along with Zod's own DNA. He was attached to Clark's ship, so they arrived here at the exact same time in the exact same cornfield. The only difference is that the Kents found Clark, and Davis bounced around from numerous foster homes. It could have been the other way around, easily. Davis Kent. He just wants to be a normal guy, but his biology literally forces him not to be able to. He has no choice in the matter. I do feel a *tad* sorry for him, despite my dislike of the recycled "darkness within" arc. He was really scared by what Faora was saying to him, because I think he believed it. He confirmed it to himself at the end, of course. That's also something I like. "That which kills you makes you stronger." Just like Doomsday in the comics. He can't be killed the same way twice.

Also, and yes this deserves a paragraph all to itself, Sam Witwer has an amazing body. Did I already say this in my Prey review? Okay. I'll say it again. I'll be just fine if he decides to take his shirt off every week, because damn. Seeeeex. :)

Kara Zor-El
"See? You're always with me. Close to my heart."

I'll say it. I really will kind of miss Kara. She didn't add a whole lot to the show, and did steal the spotlight a lot last season, but I love her relationship with Clark. She went out very nobly. She was planning on staying in that "hellhole" for eternity, just so the phantoms wouldn't escape. She just wanted to get Kal-El home safely, even if it meant she would have to stay behind and die. She believed that her destiny was solely to protect Clark. She ~~was~~ is a hero in my eyes. And she got to use MM's crystal from Labyrinth! I was always bothered that they never explored that thing. I thought it was great continuity. And I'm pretty sure they just flat out forgot that Martian Manhunter and Kara hate each other's guts. LV did much better in this episode than I thought she would've (it sounds like an insult, but it's really a compliment). I think, in the end, she bacame her Supergirl persona. Or, at least that's the closest they were able to give us before she left forever. Kara had the 'S' emblem right on her chest, and she flew away majestically into the night sky, ready to be her own person. Her own hero. It all sounds very cheesy, but I liked her sendoff a lot. I only wish she had a smidge more screentime.

Overall...

This was Kian's favorite episode out of the three he's seen so far (Prey, Identity, Bloodline), although he did like Identity very much too. I'm kind of torn. In some ways it was better than last week, and in other ways it wasn't. The special effects were great (minus the river of blood). I think PS3 are 8 for 8 so far (even though Prey was kind of meh). I'm not really looking forward to next week, though (or the episodes when Lana is around, because those are just sounding worse and worse). Now random screencaps that I liked! :)

#8-12 "Bulletproof" Spoilers

For those of you who really do not want go through the many pages of the Bulletproof sides, here's a quick rundown:

- John Jones is shot by a member of his own squad
- Clark goes undercover as a cop named "Joe" to investigate
- A cop named Danny has a huge role in this episode
- This is a crime procedural episode (like NYPD Blue)
- The story involves mainly MM, Clark, and Oliver
- Clark is worried that the doctors may see John's "Martian insides"
- Oliver has a special doctor hired specifically for the JL
- Green Arrow is in the episode
- Clark is blamed for shooting John Jones
- Lots and lots of drug deals, drug dealers, and drug busts
- Danny's son dresses up like The Red/Blue Blur (city's new hero)

Hmm. Sounds like Lana is off with Tess and isn't even really with Clark throughout most of the episode, aside from their dinner date. I wonder what Chloe's up to.

Sigh. Look at that first one! GUHHHHH. I don't know what he's doing in the last one, but it looks funny. :) It could possibly be the dance from Thriller. Very cool to see the BTS stuff. I hadn't realized that much green screen was used for this sequence. The cityscape cloth for the windows of the Planet was also cool to see! Although I think they should be using white or blue light to illuminate it.

Also, how nice is it to see the show being recognized by the LA Times!? Yay! We're still relevant! :D

K-Site has #8-12 news. The title is Bulletproof. Clark and Lana go on a "dinner date" and we get a Tess/Lana confrontation. Ooh, and the Martian Manhunter is back.
